When hubby and I took our honeymoon cruise to Alaska, I discovered another romantic interest.
No….I didn’t fall for another guy. I fell in love — with an orchid!
Like so many beautiful things, I thought they were fussy. Goodness knows, I didn’t have time or patience to deal with anything that needed a lot of care. (A new husband was enough to keep me busy!)
It was years before I indulged my fantasies of growing them myself. And then I bought this.
Now I’m smitten! After a few months, I got on YouTube and discovered there are thousands of people in love with orchids, just like me. I learned how to pull the sphagnum moss away from the roots and surround it with bark chips in a pot with holes. I did this while the plant was in bloom and held my breath, thinking all the blossoms would surely fall off.
But they didn’t! And new shoots even started to sprout. I was feeling so good about the whole thing I went to the store and bought few more.
My husband is happy they take so little time – so ALL my attention is focused on him!
